Why? is supposed to be hip hop but that’s not entirely true. There are many rhymes in their music but also some singing and their melodies are influenced by indie rock and pop (some songs are straight one of these genres). I find the whole anticon. movement quite interesting, but I actually prefer Def Jux or Stones Throw when it comes to experimenting with hip hop. This new album doesn’t differ much from the previous ones. Surprisingly (for modern standards), it doesn’t mean the quality has suffered and Alopecia is a very good album. It’s quite calm, and I particularly like some piano and hi-hat lines in certain tracks. I think they are a key element to create the whole atmosphere. - Grey
