It’s snowy, it’s isolated, it’s probably the most boring town to live in, especially when your IQ is high enough to solve a Rubik’s cube in seconds. However, director Dagur Kári managed to create a slow film that’s actually entertaining enough to keep you hooked until it ends, and you won’t be disappointed when it does! Nói albínói’s got comedy, drama, love story, family issues, an old lady with a shotgun, an amazing all-white scenery and a photography direction that’ll make you drop jaws. Here’s how it goes: Nói’s a seventeen year old high school student (from time to time), who you’ll learn to love as the movie takes place. The perfect choice of making him an albinoi, which has no effect on the plot what so ever, makes every outdoor scene poetic, showing the extreme emptiness the town and himself are suffering. But being a genius doesn’t imply being perfect. Nói’s given up on his life and gets kicked out of school, deeply disappointing his drunken father. This is when his whole life starts revolving around Iris, the new girl in town, from the city, who with he’ll fall in love and plan to leave with. I need to give special props to the final twist, the “blueish” tone which almost made me feel the Iceland cold in the middle of summer, and the acting performance of Tómas Lemarquis (Nói), who did an excellent job in not overdoing the part. - Federicca
