Sing What You Know
Grand Hotel Van Cleef
February 1, 2008

If I could divide this album into two aspects and rate them individually, they would be the lyrics and the actual songs. The fairest rating of these two combined would be a 4/5, but if I had to go by the songs' content alone the only rating that comes to mind is fantasmalagical. Home of the Lame is formed by Felix Gebhard, Christian Hake, Ingo Schröder and Alex Böll, all of them born in the Land der Dichter und Denker and although their latest musical effort is not particulary innovating (like it has been happening to a lot of bands in the independent scene in the last couple of years with a few exceptions) Sing What You Know is one of the best albums I've heard this year and what possibly stands out the most in this album is its continuity and balance, the whole album is perfectly constructed. It has ups and downs, moments worthy enough to evoke an spiritual illumination and a few others that can make us think in Gebhard's paternal voice saying to us "the best days of your lives have passed". Be this true or not, time is the only thing that can make us think otherwise. - Khyne
