The Missouri quartet has just released Pershing, the amazing follow-up to 2006's Broom. I thought Broom was a tough act to follow, every single song on that album is fantastic. I must've listened to "Anne Elephant" countless times. I really wasn't expecting Pershing to be as good as their debut. Lately, bands with great debut albums, have had somewhat disappointing releases (Tapes N' Tapes) but I was pleasantly surprised when upon listening to this, I fell in love with it just like I did with Broom. It has quickly become my favorite release of the year so far. What these boys do is nothing revolutionary but it's really hard not to like this album, it's a collection of cheery pop songs that will make you smile. How can you not love the cowbell on "Glue Girls"? or the horns on "Boring Fountain"? While Broom was a classic debut, Pershing manages to be better in almost every way. -Tinasucks
