Cat Power Jukebox Matador January 22, 2008
In a new century, after a few records released, Cat Power found her own way to be a singer-songwriter and became more popular. After two good records, she’s going to release “Jukebox”, where she covers some of her favorite artists (it only includes an original song). The first track is a warm version of “New York, New York” popularized by Frank Sinatra. Chan Marshall doesn’t refuse to maintain the classic glamorous sound of the original track, but she makes sure you’ll know it’s her who is singing. She also covers Bob Dylan, Billie Holliday, James Brown, Hank Williams, Janis Joplin… She could have recorded a bunch of acoustic guitar covers, but she decided to try with this mix of the original musical atmosphere and her own style. The effort is worth it. Light up a cigarette. She’ll set the mood with her unique voice. - Grey
