9th Wonder & Buckshot The Formula Duck Down Records April 29, 2008
I didn’t know what to expect with this album. The first collabo between 9th Wonder and Buckshot was pretty enjoyable, but I had the impression 9th Wonder was sounding kind of redundant lately. After breaking up with Little Brother and a not-so-relevant solo album, there was some uncertainty about how his style would eventually evolve. I’m glad that after listening to The Formula I can see a chance for 9th Wonder to reinvent himself. Beats are definitely not mind-blowing but there’s something in some of them that makes me think he will be successful in redefining his style. Buckshot has done his job well too. He’s one of these mc’s you could call “the voice of experience”; solid style, good rhymes, honest attitude and consistent flow. All of you waiting for some entertaining rap to listen to should get a copy of this album. - Grey
